This collection, depicting solo farm and domestic animals, realistic as well as strange and fanciful birds, are part of a larger collection from a Mennonite estate in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Although these images were painted in the 1930’s, the frugal artists used ledger dating back to as to as early as 1812, simply tearing apart the outdated books and painting directly onto the scripted sheets.
This particular piece is of a small dove.
